The First Hemispheric Indigenous Education Conference will bring together various actors en education for indigenous communities of America. Its primary purpose is to exchange pedagogical experiences, policies, methodologies and educational materials with the hope that this effort may lead to the enrichment and consolidation of education processes en the American region. It is also oriented toward increasing social consolidation of indigenous, bilingual, intercultural education policy so that it may become the policy of each of the countries of the hemisphere.

The Conference will facilitate participants' exchange of experiences, practical knowledge, and educational materials that are relevant to the development of bilingual intercultural education en their respective countries.

This international Conference will take place en the framework of cooperation between the Ministry of Education of Guatemala and the United States Agency for International Development. It will be carried out by World Learning through the PAEBI project, (Proyecto Accesso a la Educacion Bilingue Intercultural), and the collaboration of Guatemalan universities, organizations, and educational institutions.

The methodology of the event is based on three main areas: a pedagogical area, an academic area, and a political area. Cultural presentations and commercial expositions will complement these.
